A Very Memorable Mother’s Day
Creating opportunities for families to have special experiences together and make lasting memories is at the core of our mission. And what better occasion to do just that than over Mother’s Day weekend! After all, the holiday was conceptualized as a day of celebration between mothers and their families before it became all about chocolates, flowers, and cards.
There were outings such as a visit to the local aquarium and to the botanical gardens. There were group lunches and poolside fun. But the highlight for everyone was probably the beach day when everyone – our special kiddos, their siblings, and even their parents – got a chance to surf with the help of some amazing volunteers. All of the activities were true family affairs!
And to round out the enrichment of the Escape, our wonderful volunteer therapists provided therapy to our children with different abilities, of course; but we were even more blessed by the selflessness of an amazing life coach who contributed her time and talents by leading a special, emotional session for the moms in our group. I truly believe that everyone came away from the weekend feeling incredibly fulfilled on many levels and that result couldn’t be truer to our mission.
The volunteers highlighted above, as well as a couple of volunteer photographers, give meaning to the saying “it takes a village”. It was an honor for us to be able to facilitate a memorable weekend for the four wonderful families who participated in our second Escape, but we truly couldn’t do it without people like them who believe in what we do!
